Where do I get TowLoadCheck?
TowLoadCheck is on the App Store for iPhone, running iOS 15.1 or later. Download TowLoadCheck on the App Store.
How much does TowLoadCheck cost?
TowLoadCheck is $0.99 on the US App Store, a single purchase with no subscription, no advertising and no in-app purchases. Prices in other countries are set by Apple for each storefront and include local tax where that is required, so the figure shown on your own App Store may differ. Buy it once and it is available on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
Where do the vehicle and trailer numbers come from?
You enter them, and TowLoadCheck checks your combination against the ratings you supply. Those figures come off the vehicle's door label, the owner's manual or tow guide, and the trailer's own label. Every field has a help button telling you what the number is and where to find it. Entering your own ratings means you are checking against your specific vehicle as it was actually built and optioned, rather than a generic published figure for the model.
What do I need to enter for my tow vehicle?
Payload capacity and GVWR, both printed on the sticker inside the driver's door frame, plus maximum loaded trailer weight and GCWR from your owner's manual or tow guide. GCWR is optional but recommended, as it is often the rating you run out of first. Give the vehicle a name and it is saved for next time.
What do I need to enter for my trailer?
The trailer type, its empty weight and its GVWR from the trailer label, and a default tongue weight percentage, which starts at 12%. Bear in mind that a published empty weight often excludes options, propane and batteries, so a weighed figure is more reliable whenever you have one.
Can I save more than one vehicle or trailer?
Yes. Save each tow vehicle and each trailer under its own name and switch between them, so checking a different combination takes seconds instead of a fresh round of data entry. Your saved vehicles and trailers can sync through iCloud, so they are also available on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
What if my combination exceeds safe limits?
The results screen states plainly whether any entered rating is exceeded and lists each check individually. It also names the rating you are closest to, as a percentage used with the weight still remaining, and estimates how much more trailer you have room for. If a rating is exceeded, the app advises against towing until you have made adjustments. The checks run against the figures you entered, so the result is only as accurate as those figures.
Can I test a change before I actually load?
Yes. The What If tool lets you alter the numbers and see the effect on every check immediately, which is useful for working out what has to come off before you start moving gear. Calculation Details shows exactly which figures produced the verdict, so nothing is a black box.
Is TowLoadCheck available on Android?
Not yet. TowLoadCheck is available for iPhone on the App Store today, and Android support is on our roadmap. Check back for updates.
Does TowLoadCheck work offline?
Yes. Once you've entered your vehicle information, TowLoadCheck calculates load limits offline. Internet connection is not required for normal operation.
